The story
Before Halloween, intern Brooke Hayes proposes a temple outing for the team, and Claire Bennett, who handles the budget, agrees only after squeezing transportation and admission into the company's five thousand dollars. At the temple, the vendor demands eight hundred and eighty-eight dollars per blessing stick, and Brooke presses Claire to pay. When Claire refuses, citing the budget, director Paul Foster covers the bill and scolds her for being aggressive.
Brooke then draws the best fortune, while Claire draws the worst, and Brooke spreads word of Claire's bad luck around the office. She takes over Claire's projects, claims her good fortune will protect clients, and turns coworkers wary of Claire.
When bonus season arrives, Claire's payment never comes. Diane in Finance reveals that Brooke collected it, claiming the credit for Claire's million-dollar projects belongs to her luck, and that Mr. Martin approved it. Claire heads straight for Brooke, who is showing off a new designer handbag and a bonus of over six hundred thousand.
Opening

Brooke argued with me, visibly worked up.
“Who cares about dinner? Do you have any idea that temple is offering a limited-edition fortune stick?
