The story

Professor Lorenzo once sponsored a poor student, Sophie Martin, so she could finish university. On graduation day she confessed to him; he refused her, and she accused him of sponsoring her for lecherous reasons. The scandal cost him his job and his peace, and when he confronted her, she pushed him from a building to his death.

He wakes to find himself back on the day Sophie tells him she is dropping out. This time he lets her go, but she returns to his class, saved by Jamie Yates, and keeps angling for his money. Then she vanishes, her mother Rachel Doyle storms the principal's office, and a neighbour reveals the Martins are secretly selling their house to move to the city.

Lorenzo realises the whole family planned the deception. Summoned by principal Howard Walter, he must decide how to face the trap closing around him again.

Opening

When Sophie confesses to me on graduation day, I firmly reject her advances.

I didn't expect her to slander me after her failed confession, accusing me of sponsoring her only because I want to keep her by my side for salacious reasons.

I'm thrust into the eye of the storm and forced to endure endless criticisms.
