The story

After a fire leaves her face burned and scarred, Elena believes her husband Marcus still loves her. He is a plastic surgeon, and he tends her bandages himself each morning and promises to make her look like herself again. Then she finds a post he wrote online, asking whether he should find a beautiful mistress instead, and replying to advice with thanks.

When Marcus insists on scheduling her surgery, Elena overhears him on the phone, arguing with a crying woman about an appointment and threatening to sue her, then softening and saying he likes her too much for that. At the hospital she sees a young woman embrace and kiss him, and her own mother pulls her away, admitting she knew. Her parents urge her to stay practical: let Marcus fix her face first, then divorce him.

Elena confronts Marcus, who calls her crazy and leaves. At dawn she waits outside the hospital and spots the woman again.

Opening

After that, every mirror disappeared from our home.

Thank God my husband Marcus loved me. He's a plastic surgeon, and he didn't care that I was ugly now.

But one day, I was scrolling through his phone and found a post he'd made on Reddit:

"I love my wife, but she was disfigured in a fire and the damage is severe.
