The story
Jude has spent ten years as the overlooked husband of Naomi, a powerful real-estate mogul. When her lover Chase arrives at Jude's studio to choose a nursery design, Naomi's friends mock Jude openly, and she coolly informs him that letting him raise her son is a privilege. She orders him to file for divorce and stay on as a live-in nanny.
Then the payment card is declined, and Jude calmly names what she owes him: three hundred and seventy-seven million, five hundred and eighty thousand dollars. Naomi answers by having her guards destroy his studio, his models and blueprints, and demands he record a false confession to protect Chase. Jude refuses with a blow to her shin, and the guards pin him down.
Alone, he finds a hidden video of Naomi and Chase plotting to steal his competition entry, a medical report, and his passport. He leaves everything he cannot carry behind.
Opening
He spent the entire day shooting down my ideas, from morning until the sun began to dip below the city skyline. Finally, his eyes landed on the blueprint I had drawn for my own future child.
"This is the one," he said, running a finger over the rendering. "It’s spacious. Perfect for you to slip in and help out."
Naomi’s entourage of guy friends watched me, practically begging for me to lose my mind.
