The story
After her younger brother Simon is recognized as the lost heir of the Duke of Avon, Eliza is drawn with him into the estate and into London society, where noble ladies mock her low birth and Simon defends her as his sister. Yet the truth is that Simon is not the real heir, and the two have claimed the title to avenge their father, a man of modest means who came to London seeking justice, was framed, imprisoned and died in his cell.
At a banquet and then at the High Court of Justice, Simon plays the arrogant young lord while Eliza watches and plans. Their father's case has long been buried, and the Chief Justice, Lord Warrick, greets them with false smiles. To learn who framed their father, they must search the prison where he was held, even as Simon wonders what will happen if the true heir ever returns.
