The story
On the last day of a graduation trip, a freak heatwave strikes Death Valley. When Connor collapses with severe heat exhaustion, his girlfriend Jane gives their only bottle of electrolyte water to her male best friend, Ollie, insisting Ollie's weak constitution matters more. The rest of the team mocks Connor's jealousy, and Jane tells him to stay behind and think about his attitude. What none of them know is that his body has stopped sweating, and a mechanical voice offers him a world transfer as his vitals fail.
Over the walkie talkie, Jane and the others dismiss his pleas as attention-seeking, even after a Ranger truck arrives and she lies that the eighth member left early. She boots him from the channel, and his last chance at survival disappears.
His soul drifts to the base camp clinic, where Jane fusses over Ollie's blister and demands the best antibiotics. The story follows the betrayal that unfolds in the desert heat.
