The story
After graduation, two best friends stay in the big city and marry into the Gray family, one wedding after another. Zelda Pruitt weds Bartholomew Gray, the town's most handsome lawyer; Meryl Delgado weds his younger brother Walter, a hospital department head. Both women become pregnant less than a month apart.
Six months along, a yoga ball bursts beneath Zelda at the studio, and blood pours down between her legs. Meryl calls Walter, who scoffs at the lie and hangs up; she calls Bartholomew, who is busy comforting his adoptive sister Kate Bennett over her dead dog. No one comes. Meryl hoists Zelda onto her back and carries her to the hospital, where Zelda loses her baby and Meryl miscarries from the strain.
In the recovery room the two women decide on divorce, while the brothers blame them for lying and threaten worse. Even at the engagement party, Kate had slipped Zelda's ring onto her own finger, and Bartholomew had sided with Kate. Now, scrolling their phones, the friends see Kate parading their sibling bond again.
