The story
Fallyn believed her marriage to Garth Mulligan was salvation. After her mother fell from a cliff before her wedding, her fiancé replaced her with Heisley Nixon, and Garth alone stood up for her, vowing to find the killer and make them pay. Three years later, pregnant and about to give birth, she overhears him speaking with a doctor: he married her only to keep her from uncovering the truth about that year, so Heisley could live happily.
The truth cuts deeper. Garth has hidden her mother's death, put contraceptives in her milk for three years, and now orders her baby taken from her womb. He has also taken her father's donor heart and given it to Heisley's child, leaving her father to die. When she wakes, he lies that the baby and the surgery both failed, then leaves at Heisley's call.
Fallyn dials a number and agrees to marry a man on one condition—destroy the Mulligans. In ten days she will leave, divorce papers in hand.
Opening
The day before my supposed wedding, Mom fell off a cliff. Her body was never found.
Instead of grieving with me, my then-fiancé showed no sympathy at all. He even complained that I brought bad luck, and on the wedding day, he replaced me as the bride—with Heisley Nixon.
I crashed the ceremony in a fury. But he ruthlessly threw me out, and guests mocked me for wanting to get married so soon after my mother’s death.
Just when I was drowning in grief, Garth Mulligan stood up for me, asking me to marry him.
