My Alpha Regretted Letting Me Go

For eight years Emma Johnson loved Liam Smith in secret, and at last she spent one night with him. The next morning she overhears him on the phone: it was nothing, he says, just give her money and send her packing. He is an Alpha, and the Elder Council would never let him marry a mere human. Emma does not cry. She showers, dresses, and leaves.

At home her father shows her photographs of possible husbands. She picks one at random: Noah Davis, a gentle doctor bound for New York. The farther, the better, she tells her father. Then she drags out a locked box of eight years of keepsakes and throws it all away, watching the garbage truck crush it.

To leave London cleanly she must first interview Liam for her magazine, and he will only see her in person. One last meeting, she tells herself, and she will never see him again.
