The story
Mason Green is forced by his mother to take the blame for his younger brother Ian Green's robbery, and he also shoulders the murder Ian committed. After he is sentenced to death, his mother goes insane searching for him. Now a spirit, Mason watches his family celebrate Ian's escape, while his mother calls Ian kind and Mason a jinx.
Ian waits at the door for Mason's fiancée, Zelda Clark, who arrives and takes off her ring, declaring she wants to be with Ian openly now that Mason is in jail. His mother tosses the engagement ring he worked three jobs to buy into the trash, and Ian and Zelda hold hands.
Mason, who gave everything to please a family that never loved him, can only watch as the people he sacrificed himself for build their happiness on his death.
Opening
My younger brother, Ian Green, was caught for robbery, but my mother forced me to take the blame for him.
I refused, so my mother took a knife and attempted suicide.
She knew that I was filial and would not want her to suffer any harm, so I gave in.
However, my mother had no idea that I also took responsibility for a murder he committed.
