The story
Madeline Shaw scrubs toilets and cleans windows to pay off her husband Henry Carter's million-dollar debt, believing she is saving the man she loves. On Valentine's Day, a social media post from a woman named Vivian reveals the truth: Henry has been faking poverty for eight years, spending Madeline's earnings on his mistress. Then Henry messages her, claiming he has late-stage liver cancer and needs money for treatment.
Madeline already knows the diagnosis is real. A doctor told her Henry has at most one month left, and she had a fake clean bill of health made so he could live without worry. Now she learns he was faking illness to squeeze money from her for a car for his mistress.
She contacts a lawyer, Dewey Watson, to recover the funds and pursue fraud charges, then confronts Henry and his mistress Sylvia Lynwood in their hotel suite, warning Sylvia that a younger woman will one day take her place.
Opening
To help my husband, Henry Carter, pay off a million-dollar debt, I clean windows and scrub toilets in an office building on Valentine's Day just for the triple pay.
