The story
Margot has spent fifteen years as the wife of tech mogul Wyatt Scott, envied by everyone around her and mother to Parker, a prodigy who carries himself like an executive. At dinner one evening, she quietly asks her son whether he has ever wanted a little sister, the secret of her own pregnancy hidden against her body.
Parker answers that he already has one. Wyatt then sets down his cutlery and explains, without a flicker of shame, that he has been seeing a younger woman, that she is pregnant with a girl, and that he intends to keep the child. The woman is Jessie, a student from the university where Margot teaches, and Parker already knows her name. When Margot demands a divorce, her son tells her he is staying with his father, and that if she walks out, Jessie will be his new mother tomorrow.
Wyatt refuses to let her go quietly. He threatens to leak the news to her mother in the cardiac ward, and announces that Jessie is moving in that night, with Margot expected to nurse her through the pregnancy.
