The story
On the third day of her husband Lester's business trip, he posts a photo of himself kissing another woman, with a caption admitting he cheated. Nanette does not cry. She calls the police and reports that her husband is dead, and has been for three days. The officers only see a humiliated wife, and her mother-in-law arrives to insist her son is alive, showing a call log that proves he phoned her an hour ago.
Then Nanette dials Lester's number herself. The call connects, but the hoarse voice on the line is not her husband's. When his mother answers a second call from "Son", the same dead voice asks her to wire money, and it knows Nanette's name. The police finally agree to drive out to the remote mountain inn where Lester had been staying.
Every minute lost lets a killer slip further away, and the woman who knows Lester best refuses to believe he is gone.
Opening
On the third day of his business trip, my husband posted a photo of himself locked in a kiss with some gorgeous woman.
The caption was shameless: I cheated. It was a rush.
I tapped the like button, then picked up the phone and called the police. "Hello, I want to report a crime. My husband is dead. He's been dead three days."
