The story
Arthur Vance is celebrated as the perfect husband, so devoted to his wife Evelyn that he wrote an "Evelyn Manual" listing her every preference and allergy and made his whole company memorize it. Strawberries are forbidden, pollen is forbidden, and her morning water must be exactly 107 degrees. Evelyn believed she lived a fairy-tale marriage.
On their fourth anniversary, the blueberry mousse Arthur made himself sends her into anaphylactic shock. Beneath the blueberry she tastes strawberry. In the hospital she overhears nurses speak of Chloe, the woman Arthur escorted through prenatal appointments, and of the West Side estate transferred to Chloe three months ago. A message on his phone reads: Artie, I miss you.
Chloe is the product of her father's infidelity, the girl who once handed her strawberry juice and watched her fight for breath. At the estate, Arthur shields Chloe and calls Evelyn aggressive. Calmly, Evelyn demands his three proxy votes and the deed, while Uncle Ray tracks every transfer and Attorney Lee waits for her final order.
