The story
When Clara's husband Ethan registers his colleague Chloe's fingerprint on their smart lock, she realizes the home she has quietly kept is not really hers. Chloe lets herself in, and Ethan calls it convenient; when Clara objects, he calls her unreasonable and accuses her of making a scene.
Back home, Clara finds her new lipstick gone—Ethan gave it to Chloe. He offers money and excuses, insisting Chloe is only a struggling colleague, while Clara's own mother tells her to be more understanding. To everyone, her anger is the problem, not his choices.
So Clara stops explaining. She says the word divorce, and for the first time the house falls silent around her.

The door beeped and clicked open.
I stood at the threshold, staring at her.
