The story
At the office, a new intern named Gage Price invites Adrian Edwards to his wedding. When Adrian opens the invitation, he freezes: the bride is listed as Chloé Miller, his own wife. Colleagues praise Gage for marrying a wealthy, well-preserved socialite, and a photo on the screen confirms her face is an exact match.
At the wedding, Gage warmly calls him Adrian and shares how Chloé sponsored him at university, how a hand-knitted sweater began their four-year love, and how she told him her first husband and son both died. Adrian listens in silence, remembering the sweater she claimed was from his late mother, the mortgaged houses, the missing tuition, and the business trips that were never real.
As colleagues envy Gage's fortune and Chloé calls to be surprised at the ring exchange, Adrian sits among the guests, the fifteen years of his marriage collapsing around him.
Opening
The new intern at the office was getting married, and he specially sent me an invitation. I opened it casually, but my entire body froze when my eyes scanned the bride’s name—Chloé Miller?
