When I woke up, I was in a hospital.
My throat was sore, but my face had no scars, and my stomach had no bandages.
For once, I was relieved.
But then the door was kicked open.
"Stop faking it, Mark. You're not trying to work, and you're pushing all your work onto Chad!"
"Chad is a regular guy and wouldn't do this, you better fix things with the clients, or else I'm firing you!"
It was my boss, Annabelle.
We were childhood friends, and I followed her because she helped my grandma during college.
The company had a lot of problems, whether it was a lack of money or connections.
She promised me, that once the company grew, I would get a raise, stock options, and that I could buy back my house.
Ten years have passed.
The company grew, but she didn't deliver on her promises.
"It's so hard to find a job nowadays, you should be grateful that I gave you one."
I was still making $3000 a month, and last life, my Christmas bonus went to Chad.
Whenever I quit, she would bring up my grandma's medical bills as an excuse.
I wish that this company would go bankrupt!
"I quit!"
"But you have to return the money that I paid for the company, with the interest that is almost 300000, and the Christmas bonus of 100000, and compensation, along with the monthly bonuses."
I opened my phone and showed her the receipts.
I had been waiting for this moment!
Annabelle stared at me.
"Are you crazy? When did you give money to the company? You lost a client, so you shouldn't be compensated, you should be paying us!"
I was about to say something, but Chad said in disgust.
"Mark, a man should know his place. Annabelle is giving you a platform to display your talents. Otherwise, as a graduate, how could you find such a good job?"
"Apologize to Annabelle. It's so hard to find a job. Don't throw it all away."
I scoffed.
"You don't want me to leave, or you'll have to pick up the slack."
Chad glanced at Annabelle.
Annabelle said:
"I can cover for Chad! Do you think the company will fall apart?"
Okay, I'll see which department can operate without me!
