The story
Megan has aphasia, and her parents, Eric Cox and Sharon Wilson, have always favoured her cousin Laura Cox. When Laura refused to marry her vegetative fiancé, Roman White, they made Megan marry him in her place. For three years Megan cares for him devotedly, until Roman miraculously wakes up.
The first thing Roman does is ask for a divorce: he mistakes Laura for the woman who nursed him and swears he will marry no one but her. Megan cannot defend herself, and Laura turns her parents against her too. Disappointed and heartbroken, Megan asks a hypnotist to erase her memories so her aphasia can be treated. When she wakes, she looks at the man beside her bed and asks who he is.
