The story

Scarlett's water breaks weeks before her due date, and she wakes Brandon, urging him to grab the hospital bag. At the door, her best friend Chloe emerges barefoot from the guest room, wanting to wash and dry her hair first. Brandon sets the bag down and cleans Chloe's sneakers instead, calling Scarlett dramatic as her contractions worsen.

Nora the nanny warns that the baby could suffocate, and Amanda and Scarlett's family plead with Brandon, but he keeps tending to Chloe's hair and skincare. The hospital calls: Scarlett must arrive before 11:00. Chloe then insists on curling her hair and choosing a lipstick, and Brandon steps back inside to wait for her.

Scarlett reminds him that Chloe's delays once cost them their marriage registration and his ceremony, then asks whether he chooses her and the baby or waiting for Chloe.

Opening

Just as we reached the front door, my best friend, Chloe, ran out of the guest room barefoot.

"Oh wait. Hold on. I haven't washed my hair yet."

A sharp contraction hit my abdomen. To my shock, Brandon actually stopped in his tracks.

"Okay, take your time. Put some shoes on first."

Chloe stood in front of the hallway mirror, combing her hair and pouting.

"Scarlett, don't worry. I wash my hair super fast."
