The story
After her daughter leaves for college, Sarah turns the two commercial units she owns into a community kitchen and after-school hub, charging a flat five dollars per person and hiring professional chefs to serve seniors and children alike. Neighbors call her Mama Sarah, and the place thrives on goodwill.
Then Owen Maxwell enrolls his children and his wife Naomi's disabled mother. Polished and helpful, he soon wins the community's trust, then posts a three-thousand-word proposal demanding fresh daily-butchered meat, a cost breakdown, licensing and more staff. The group chat erupts in support, and Sarah finds the signed Food Sourcing Disclosure Statement that everyone agreed to.
As costs and accusations mount, Sarah must decide how to answer a man who speaks for the community she built.
Opening
After my daughter left for college, I repurposed the two commercial units I owned in the complex into a community kitchen and after-school hub.
I hired a designer for a full renovation and bought all new fixtures and furniture, dividing the space into distinct areas for seniors and for children.
