The story
Taken in as a charity case by the Montgomery family, Hermosa married Calvin Montgomery at twenty-two because she was pregnant with his child. Calvin is a notorious germaphobe who keeps separate utensils, refuses to kiss her, and treats her as contaminated. At a dinner party, she watches him drink from the exact spot on a glass where his first love Brianna left her lipstick, sparing Brianna from getting tipsy. That moment tells her the marriage is over.
At home, Calvin clings to her in his sleep, but she pulls away. Her son Hudson, who now calls her Hermosa instead of Mom, blames her for the family's coldness. She calls her former boss Camille and agrees to move to Paris, then finds the divorce agreement Calvin's mother drafted years ago.
The next morning she is distant, and when she announces she has errands and will no longer drive Hudson or deliver Calvin's lunch, Calvin asks where she is going.
