When I was eighteen, I took a brutal hit to the head trying to save my younger brother, Jake, and my girlfriend, Chloe, after they fell through the ice. My mind froze, forever stuck at seven years old.
Jake knelt by my hospital bed, his voice choked with sobs:
"Leo, you gave me my life. I swear I'll take care of you forever."
Chloe, who I'd grown up with since childhood, clutched my hand tightly:
"Once you're better, we'll get married."
For ten years, they took me to countless specialists, traveling through eighteen countries, searching for a cure.
Until they fell in love, and I became their only burden.
Jake would hit me, and Chloe would scream insults.
But when a sudden fire broke out, both Jake and Chloe shielded me.
They wrapped my limp body in wet blankets, sacrificing their lives to push me towards the emergency exit.
"We don't owe you anything more. If there's a next life, please let us finally be together, just us?"
I looked at Chloe's swollen, tear-filled eyes, and let go of my breath.
This time, it's your turn to be free.
