The story
A fortune-teller once warned Alessia that her husband would betray her in the seventh year of their marriage. She laughed it off, because Mario Brasco loved her with a devotion everyone could see: he abandoned a multimillion-dollar deal to sit by her sickbed, took three bullets to rescue her from kidnappers, and turned down her half-sister Carmilla Marino so firmly that her father sent the girl abroad.
On their seventh anniversary, an email from an unknown sender arrives with Carmilla's medical report and a photo of her and Mario together. Carmilla is pregnant. Mario denies everything, yet a lipstick stain on his collar and a call he hides tell another story, and the photos keep coming. When Alessia asks for a divorce, he refuses to sign and turns to brutal displays to prove his loyalty.
As his sleeping lips murmur Carmilla's name, Alessia reaches out to a childhood friend abroad about joining research on comatose patients.
Opening
Looking at Mario Brasco—his eyes filled with nothing but me—I couldn't help but scoff at the fortune-teller's words.
Everyone knew Mario loved me enough to give up everything.
When I caught a simple cold, he abandoned a multimillion-dollar mafia deal and flew home just to be by my side.
When I was kidnapped, he took three bullets rescuing me, yet never once thought of giving up.
