The story

For eight years Nora Bishop loved Damien Penn, and for five of them she was his wife and his employee. When a mudslide nearly kills her, he ignores her calls, sends a helicopter only to divert it to Australia for her younger sister Hadley's lobster, and leaves her with a photograph she was never meant to see. Nora finally understands that her life has never mattered to him.

On the morning of his birthday, she hands Damien a folder and asks for one signature. He signs without reading, then tells her to be more lively, like Hadley, and to make no scene at his party on the new yacht. In her notebook she writes the hundredth entry, and she mails him her wedding ring, the divorce papers and the notebook.

Then she dials a number she buried long ago. Kane answers, and warns her that anyone who plays him does not stay alive for long.

Opening

"Miss Bishop, these are the relevant documents you need to cancel your identity and divorce. Your success and relationship with Mr. Penn today have been hard-earned. Please consider carefully."

Nora's tone was calm with a firm gaze.

"Damien will be happy with my decision. Please continue to help me handle the cancellation procedures."

Nora Bishop and Damien Penn had known each other for eight years and been married for five years. Besides, Nora had worked for him for five years.
