Scandalous by Design

Chloe Chen has spent twenty years as Hollywood's favourite villainess, ever since a seven-year-old's accidental step on Lydia Quinn's dress earned her a lifelong label of dishonesty. Her own brother, top idol Chase Chen, leads the anti-fan club: he mocks her, eats cake in front of her, and publicly posts a fake terminal diagnosis, begging strangers for fifty dollars to fund her funeral.

Then the untouchable movie god Preston Shaw turns up at their door at one in the morning, offering fifty million dollars to save her. Chase tells him she is already gone. Chloe, back from a snack run, asks who is gone, and Preston faints. He is terrified of ghosts.

Preston wakes in her pink bed, sparks flying between them, asking whether she is really with Chase. At the door waits Lydia Quinn, the architect of Chloe's ruin. Chase slams it shut and tells his sister she does not have to hold back her tears at home.
