The story
Six years ago, Hazel died in a cold prison cell, taking the fall for a hit-and-run committed by Roselyn, the adopted sister of her older brother Grant. Today, Grant comes looking for her again, demanding she confess to a crime committed by Roselyn's younger brother. He waits, but she never walks out of those prison gates.
Assuming she was released early and is hiding out of spite, Grant storms into the family estate, where Hazel's best friend Jenny is holding a memorial for the sixth anniversary of her death. Jenny screams that Hazel was beaten to death in her second year behind bars, but Grant scoffs, calling it a performance and crushing the vigil candle under his foot. He threatens Jenny's husband's job and her mother's hospital care, vowing that dead or alive, he will dig Hazel up.
Bound to Grant as a ghost, Hazel can only watch as he refuses to believe the truth, even when the prison records confirm she died six years ago. At his penthouse, her former fiancé Tristan tends to Roselyn's pregnant belly, and Grant swears he will find Hazel.
Opening
It had been exactly six years since I died a miserable death in a cold prison cell, taking the fall for my older brother’s adopted sister.
Today, my brother Grant actually came looking for me again. He wanted me to confess to a crime committed by Roselyn’s younger brother, a kid they had sent away years ago.
He claimed the boy was too young and couldn't handle the harshness of being locked up.
Grant said it so casually. He told me I already had experience behind bars, so going back in…
