The story
When a call meant for Charlette is answered by her mother, her mother mistakes it for a loan shark's demand and, fearing the family will be burdened, hands over the proceeds from selling their home to Charlette's brother, Lonnie Nicolson. What her mother does not know is that the call came from the lottery office: Charlette has won ten million dollars. Clutching the ticket, Charlette says nothing, even as her father explains that Lonnie needed the money for a new business.
Then Charlette sees Lonnie boasting online about the apartments registered in his name and the balance his father gave him. She shares it with the family group chat, but her mother stays silent, her father forwards a news article, and her message is buried. Her boyfriend, Henson Deleon, apologises for their quarrel, yet his hesitation only deepens her hurt.
Charlette cashes in the ticket and returns to work, unable to feel any joy. Then her father calls: her mother has collapsed and is in the hospital, and Charlette must come at once.

Fearing that I might burden the family, she promptly shuffled all the proceeds garnered from selling our abode to my brother, Lonnie Nicolson.
What she didn't know was that the call she answered was actually from the lottery office.
I won ten million dollars in the lottery.
A call reminding me to pay taxes was accidentally picked up by my mom. In a panic, she asked me, "Did you borrow money from a loan shark?"
