The story
Chloe stands outside a hospital room, clutching her urgent transplant notice, and hears her husband Zachary admit he altered her medical records so her kidney match went to Kelly instead. Nine years by his side and three years of marriage, yet he calls her selfish and says the reassignment will humble her. When she confronts him, Kelly clings to him in tears, and Zachary insists Kelly has severe liver dysfunction and needs the spot more.
Chloe removes her wedding ring and walks away, but the betrayal follows her home. The joint account is nearly empty, her grandmother's diamond bracelet glitters on Kelly's wrist, and Kelly's dresses fill the master bedroom while Chloe is sent to the guest room. Her own mother refuses to take her side.
With her transplant spot, her money and her marriage all taken, Chloe turns to Lauren, a family law attorney, and resolves that her life is hers alone to keep.

I stood outside the hospital room, clutching my critical condition notice, listening to Kelly whimpering affectionately into Zachary’s chest.
"Zach, thank God you altered the medical records. Otherwise, I never would’ve gotten that kidney donor match."
Zachary’s response was bone-chillingly cold.
