The story
On her wedding day, Scarlett discovers that her bridal makeup artist has been replaced and that the look designed exclusively for her now adorns her bridesmaid, Ivy. She finds James, her groom, holding Ivy possessively, and when she hands over her custom gown, he mistakes her numbness for grace. Ivy then claims the bridesmaid dress was tailored for her, and James snatches it from Scarlett's hands, accusing her of taking things from Ivy.
Ivy collapses in a theatrical faint, invoking a childhood marriage pact and a suicide attempt, and James threatens to cancel the wedding if anything happens to her. He shoves past Scarlett, striking her fractured arm, an injury she hid after being cornered in an alley on Ivy's orders. Scarlett calls Arthur Sinclair and accepts a post in the volatile Eastern European sector, knowing it means living apart from James for at least five years.
When James returns, he tells her the separation is the only way she can atone for what she did to Ivy. Scarlett agrees without protest, her calm unsettling him as he reaches for her cheek and she turns away.

On the day of my wedding, I discovered my bridal makeup artist had been swapped with my bridesmaid's.
Lifting the heavy, beaded skirt of my wedding gown, I went looking for my groom, James. Instead, I found him leaning over a vanity chair, wrapping his arms possessively around my bridesmaid, Ivy.
Ivy's face was flawlessly painted with the exact bridal look the celebrity makeup artist had spent weeks designing exclusively for me.
When she saw me, her voice dropped into a timid, trembling whisper.
"Scarlett, please don't be mad at James. I just thought it would be fun to try the bridal look.
