The story
Six months pregnant, Jessica survives a mountain landslide that kills her unborn child. As she bleeds, her husband Nick refuses to help, busy rescuing his childhood sweetheart Lily. His brother Mark, Joanna's husband, is just as cold when Joanna begs for aid.
In the hospital, Jessica and Joanna each text two words: divorce. Nick's furious call reveals the tender message Jessica thought came from him was sent by Lily. Neither brother believes the women; both change their profile pictures to a photo with Lily, and the trio becomes a media sensation.
Day after day the wives call, but the calls never connect. Jessica has already lost three years to this marriage, and now she is simply blocked.
Opening
Six months pregnant, I decided to surprise my husband after he texted that he missed me. My best friend Joanna was driving me home through the mountains when a landslide struck.
A boulder shattered the window and hit my stomach. Blood soaked the seat.
Terrified, Joanna called my husband Nick. I cried for help, but he snapped, “I’m rescuing Lily—she twisted her ankle. Don’t bother me now!” and hung up.
Joanna called her husband, Nick’s brother. He yelled, “If Lily’s hurt, your friend miscarries?
