The 519 Misprints

Seven days before the wedding, a box of 520 printed invitations arrives at the house. On 519 of them, the bride's line reads Chloe Thorne instead of Maya's name. Only the last invitation carries Maya's name, squeezed into the bottom margin like a footnote. Chloe laughs it off as a typing mistake, and Ethan, her fiancé, tells Maya to fix the digital evite rather than reprint.

Maya chose the heavy cotton parchment to honour her late father, a master calligrapher, and the quote inside was traced from one of his letters. Yet Ethan's parents urge her not to ruin the mood over paper, and Chloe jokes about posting the pile online. When Maya says she will return the invitations or cancel the wedding, Ethan drags her into his office, warning her not to make a scene and reminding her the marriage licence is already signed.

Chloe, who has known Ethan for twenty years, keeps needling: she will pay for the paper, calls it dated, and warns that Ethan hates being backed into a corner. Maya is left holding one torn invitation and a question no one else will answer.
