The story
Pregnant and told by her doctor to eat more fruit, Monica asks her husband Colton Caruso to pick up blueberries from the shop near the family office. He comes home empty-handed, having instead collected a diamond brooch for his adopted sister Beth. When Monica asks for a divorce, Colton insists she is only moody, and Beth's tears turn him further against his wife.
Colton is the new Don, and Monica once set aside her own jewelry studio to help him build the family's position. Yet Beth's birthday, her perfume, her casino debts and her whims always come first, while Monica's plans are forgotten. After Colton leaves with Beth, Monica calls her lawyer Daniel Mercer to draw up divorce papers and accepts a job as head designer at a New York jewelry house, determined to reclaim the career she gave up.
On her way to collect the papers, a photo Beth has posted stops her scrolling.
Opening
I was craving the blueberries from the shop near the family office.
The shop got them straight from the farm. They were the freshest around.
So I texted my husband, Colton Caruso, and asked him to pick some up on his way home.
I waited at the estate. By the time Colton got home, it was dark.
He was empty-handed and went straight to his study to work. Later, he came into the bedroom and found me lying in bed, watching him.
Only then did he remember. He smiled. "I've been swamped, and it slipped my mind. You saw me come home and go straight back to family business."
I nodded and didn't push it.
