The story
The night before study abroad applications lock, Mia learns from a group chat that her boyfriend Liam has switched his preference to the UK without telling her, mocking her devotion and betting she will follow him. The Paris design program she worked years for was their shared dream, and he traded it away for Chloe.
Mia blocks Liam, leaves the chats, and refuses to beg. When he drags her into the hallway before the midnight deadline, demanding she add him back and check her application, she stands her ground. In the lecture hall, a quiet classmate named Ethan reveals he is headed to Paris too.
With the portal about to close, Mia must decide whether to keep the future she built for herself or the boy who assumed she could not live without him.
Opening
The night before the study abroad applications locked, our friend group chat exploded.
[Jake]: HOLY SHIT! Liam, why'd you switch your preference to the UK? Aren't you and Mia supposed to be doing the Paris program??
Liam’s reply was so casual it made my blood run cold.
[Liam]: Eh, I switched. She has my login. It's fine.
He followed it up with a voice memo, his laugh echoing.
[Liam (Voice Memo)]: “She’ll see I switched, and she’ll follow me. C'mon, you guys know my shadow. She can't live without me!”
