The story
Away on a work trip, Tracy is startled when her condo group chat erupts with complaints about loud role-play coming from her unit. She has been gone over six weeks, and her security camera will not connect. Her fiancé, Holden Blackwood, has moved into his campus dorm and does not answer her calls.
A neighbor, Carol Perkins, sends video and elevator footage showing a man and woman entering Tracy's floor. Tracy recognizes Holden and her best friend, Kira Ashford. Carol agrees to watch the apartment while Tracy rushes home early.
As her plane lifts off, Tracy wonders when the betrayal began and what she will do when she lands.
Opening
“My kids have finals this week. Could the unit above us please keep it down? And for God’s sake, stop playing that ‘Daddy’ game.”
Another neighbor chimed in: “Seriously. ‘Daddy’ this, ‘Daddy’ that, day and night. Are they that desperate for attention?”
But I had been out of town for over a month and a half.
Who was playing games in my apartment?
