The story
Sold at eighteen to settle her father's gambling debts, Aria Stellan is rescued from a trust-fund brat by Lian Lynn, owner of Elysium Club and the city's uncrowned king. For ten years she is his sharpest blade—trained by day in combat and finance, sharing his bed by night—until he orders her to drug George Williamson so that Celeste Bancroft, the heiress he has worshipped for over a decade, will see the man she loves debase himself and finally accept Lian's engagement.
Celeste's return strips away the illusion: she tears a diamond necklace from Aria's neck, and Lian, once ready to burn families for touching her, calls Aria merely an employee to be used. Sent to George's penthouse with an antique watch, Aria finds not a monster but a serene scholar who fastens pearls around her neck and says he would rather see her at Monday's gala.
With the man she loves treating her as a tainted tool, Aria must decide how far she will go when the order she was given finally comes due.
