The story
Zoe married Gavin Sterling, a Major General, after a blind date she attended with her best friend Bella. Their long-distance marriage was restrained and polite, until their wedding night revealed a different man. Three years on, the passion has faded, and Gavin guards his phone with a fury Zoe has never seen.
At Bella's wedding, Gavin drinks himself unconscious and murmurs Bella's name. Unlocking his phone, Zoe finds years of intimate messages between them, and a wallpaper cropped to just the two of them. When Bella calls, Gavin wakes instantly and turns on Zoe for touching his phone.
On her parents' memorial day, Gavin abandons Zoe at the grave when Bella claims trouble, leaving her to burn her hand and watch her parents' portrait burn. Then Bella posts a photo of Gavin bandaging her wound, and a recording of their whispered promises.
Opening
After engagement, the Major General and I had a long-distance relationship for years. He always used "strict discipline" as an excuse, even holding hands was restrained and polite.
On the wedding night, he was like a different person, tossing me all night without pity, changing sheets four times.
As for my best friend, she finally walked down the aisle with the CEO after on-and-off relationships.
