The story
Everyone knows Clara was the fiancée handpicked by Grandpa Sterling, and whoever marries her stands to inherit the Sterling fortune. At the engagement party, her fiancé Ethan Sterling takes the hand of her adopted sister, Mia Reed, and declares before the assembled guests that he will marry only Mia. He calls Clara willful and undeserving of the position of Mrs. Sterling, leaving her to face the pity and mockery of the room.
What Ethan does not know is that Clara's mother is heir to the reclusive and powerful King family, and that Clara herself will one day return to inherit its business empire. Since Ethan has made his choice, it is time for the Sterling family to change its heir as well. Clara bows to Grandpa Sterling, wishes her sister and Ethan a harmonious union, and then names Julian, the family's overlooked illegitimate son, as the man she wishes to marry.
As the circle buzzes over the switch, Clara quietly weighs the alliance, the King family's future, and the partner she has chosen for herself.
Opening
Everyone knew I was the fiancée handpicked by Grandpa Sterling. Whoever married me would inherit the Sterling family fortune.
At the engagement party, wearing a custom-made gown, I was ready to go on stage and announce the union between the Sterling and Reed families.
But my fiancé, Ethan Sterling, interlaced his fingers with my adopted sister, Mia Reed, pulling her into the center of the crowd to stand by his side.
"I am in love with Mia. My wife can only be her."
