The story
At work, Audrey idly scrolls a forum and finds a post from a stay-at-home husband convinced his wife dislikes him: she looks away from his body, barely touches the breakfast he cooks, and forgot the bento box he packed. The thread swells with sympathy for the gentle, insecure man, who admits he is built with a large chest and collects rent from about five buildings. Reading on, Audrey cannot help comparing him to her own husband, Liam, whom she met through a blind date arranged by their mothers.
Audrey had wanted a big-chested, gentle husband, and Liam was exactly that: broad shoulders, a handsome face, and a shy blush. Their courtship and wedding came fast, and she adores him. Then the post updates: the man's wife has a persistent suitor, her boss, who once told him to divorce her. The commenters urge him to ask his wife directly, insisting she married him because she loves him more.
Meanwhile, Audrey's own bento box is missing, and she has no idea where it went.
Opening
[She likes looking at my face, but whenever she sees my body, she looks away in disgust.]
[She barely touched the breakfast I made this morning.]
[And she forgot the bento box I packed for her... Does she not like me at all?]
What kind of person is this? I thought, shaking my head.
Then I reached into my tote bag for the adorable bento box my own sweet husband had made for me.
I rummaged around.
And around.
Wait a minute.
Where was my bento box?!
It was just past ten when I finished the proposal, with more than an hour to go until lunch.
