The story
Carmen is a werewolf sniper, the best her pack has. Perched on a rooftop with her M40, she waits for the order to end the man her Alpha has marked as a traitor: Gustavo Rollins, who handed a pack deal to a sworn rival. Ryan's voice crackles through her comm, urging her to take the shot, but for the first time in her career her hands shake and she hesitates.
When Gustavo finally turns, she sees his face and understands the reason for her fear. He is her mate. The bullet flies wide and kills the wrong man, and the crowd below erupts. Gustavo watches her leap from the building and orders his assistant Ollie to bring her to him.
Carmen wakes in an unfamiliar room, bound to a chair with spiked ropes and the scent of bane in her nostrils. Gustavo sits across from her, demanding to know who her Alpha is. She throws his betrayal back at him, but the mate bond will not stay quiet, and neither will his questions.
Opening
My fingers were fixed on the deadliest tool I could find in my box — an M40. It was the perfect weapon for the occasion as I lurked in the shadows via the rooftop of the state building.
Slow, precise, those were the steps I followed. I have never had to be in a rush to get the job done. However, for the first time ever, I was nervous.
Beads of sweat trickled down my forehead. My arms were getting weary and I could feel a headache coming. The damn pressure! But from what?
