The story

In her previous life, Anna Sullivan gave up her study abroad opportunity for Ethan Rivers, who then left the country with Willow Hayes. Lucas Knight stayed by her side, waited eight years, and married her — until a car accident left her unconscious in the ICU for seven days while he visited Willow Hayes in the next room. When Anna opens her eyes again, she is back at her desk, three months before she would surrender her exchange spot.

This time she confirms her place in the exchange program, lists the house her parents left her, and quietly prepares to take her grandmother abroad. Ethan still orders her to finish Willow's graduation project, and Lucas still appears with macarons and gentle excuses. Anna agrees to everything, touches none of Willow's work, and watches the two men rush to Willow's side.

When Lucas runs past her in the hospital hall toward Willow's wheelchair, Anna sees the salvation she once believed in for what it was. The days of compromise are ending, and she is counting them down.

Opening

I also tore up the love letters Lucas Knight had written for three years.

Because in my previous life, I became a complete joke between these two men.

Ethan said he loved me, but after I gave up my study abroad opportunity for him, he left the country with Willow Hayes.

Before leaving, he left me a letter: "She needs me more than you do."
