The story
At the New Year's Eve dinner, Emily Carter watches her father place the big chicken drumstick on her sister Olivia's plate and her grandmother stuff the other one into her younger brother Henry's. Her mother hands her a chicken wing, and the relatives praise the family's loving division of affection. Then Emily flips the table.
She forces the wing into her mother's mouth, revealing it was picked up off the floor. Henry confirms their mother said it would be a pity to waste it. When her mother weeps about the sweater she knitted, Emily strips it off, exposing the raw, itching rash across her waist, and shows the video of her mother unraveling Olivia's old sweater, unwashed, to knit for her, plus the receipt and messages calling her dramatic.
As the accusations turn, Emily faces the family that insists her mother loves her most.
Opening
When Dad bought my sister a new dress, she stayed up late knitting a sweater for me.
When Grandma took my younger brother out for burgers, she baked me a homemade sponge cake.
