The story
Ron is a demolition expert known as the "Grim Reaper's Rival," a man who can defuse any explosive in milliseconds. When his brother Ethan is strapped to a bomb, his fiancée Iris Gray and his parents, Chief Rhodes and his wife, beg him to act. But Ron shows them his right arm, encased in a plaster cast from a car accident, and refuses.
His family accuses him of faking the injury out of jealousy, while Iris, determined to save Ethan, offers to handle the disposal herself. Ron demands that all family assets be transferred to him before he consents to the use of his proprietary technique. As Iris succeeds and is hailed a hero, public outrage turns against Ron, and a message warns him to confess or disappear.
Eight years after being found as the Rhodes family's lost son, Ron faces a family that renamed him "Rock" and poured its hopes into Ethan. With his career in ruins and the city against him, he must decide what tomorrow will bring.
Opening
My brother was strapped with a bomb, the timer ticking frantically.
I was at the training base, my fingers nimbly tapping away at a video game controller.
Minutes later, my fiancée, Iris Gray, kicked the door open and stormed in, her face ghostly pale.
"Ron! The bomb is under ten minutes! Every bomb disposal expert in the city is waiting for you! You're the only one who can disarm that kind of intricate device!"
Her nails dug into her palms, drawing blood. Tears welled up in her eyes.
