The story
On her wedding anniversary, Mia's husband Liam cooks a table full of dishes — though he has never cooked before. As she eats, he asks questions and takes notes, but the notebook reveals his real purpose: every remark is about Chloe, his assistant. When Mia falls ill from the undercooked food, Liam dismisses her, tells her to take medicine, and leaves. She calls emergency services herself and wakes in a hospital bed.
There, Liam phones only to ask about scallions for a stir-fry, and a woman's voice sounds beside him. Alone, Mia finds Chloe's posts and, through a hidden account, Liam's profile: years of photos with Chloe, a marriage-certificate portrait dated three years ago, and the same meal he cooked for Mia, captioned for Chloe's birthday. A ten-dollar transfer arrives for her medicine.
Mia declines it, and Liam calls, furious, demanding she apologize to Chloe on her birthday. Mia asks why she should apologize at all.
Opening
With every bite I took, my husband, Liam, asked detailed questions and carefully jotted down notes.
During the meal, he stepped into the bedroom to answer a phone call. It was the specific ringtone he set for his assistant, Chloe.
I casually picked up the notebook he left behind, only to find it filled with detailed notes that had absolutely nothing to do with me.
