The story

Angela has loved Rowan River for ten years. A year ago he promised that once she finished her studies abroad, they would be together. Returning home, she stops at a hospital and overhears him ordering his staff to hide the news of his newborn baby, and learns that her best friend Samantha Punter is now his fiancée and the mother of his child.

Rowan greets her warmly, but every small thing betrays him: a tattoo of Samantha's initials, a baby's bottle in his car, tissues he keeps for the baby, mushrooms she has always hated. He remembers nothing about her, and when his phone rings with the name Honey, he leaves her alone at the table.

Angela says nothing and lets him keep his lies, while the love she carried for ten years quietly dies.

Opening

When I arrived at the hospital, I saw him giving orders to his staff. "Don't let the news of the baby leak out. If Angela finds out, she'll definitely come back and cause a scene."

I had liked him for ten years, and a year ago, I confessed my feelings to him.

At the time, he said, "Wait until you finish school and come back, then we'll be together."

I found it laughable.

This time, though, I didn't react like before. I didn't yell at him or ask why he had lied to me.

Instead, I boarded a plane and left the country, agreeing to marry the guy who had been pursuing me recently.
