The story
For fifteen years, Skylar has lived quietly in an orphanage, until the day her younger sister Sophie is adopted by a wealthy socialite and Skylar is taken in by the dorm matron. Then floating text appears before Skylar's eyes, revealing that Sophie will one day fight dogs for food while Skylar will be spoiled by Mr. Brooks, the richest man in Port City. Sophie can see the text too, and she swiftly trades places, sweetly calling the dorm matron "Mommy" so she can chase the richer future.
Skylar is instead taken in by the Sterlings, whose heir, Greg, tosses her a dog collar and orders her to bark for money. She obeys, eats from a dog bowl, and sleeps in the doghouse, all while Sophie posts happy photos of bean sprouts and rice. Greg drags her to piano and golf lessons, and when Sophie mocks her as a free maid, Greg dismisses Sophie as riff-raff.
Yet the floating text warns that Greg is only training a dog, and that Skylar is in for a hard time. Skylar keeps smiling, determined to survive in the Sterling household and to thrive even more.
Opening
[The sister doesn't know, does she? After she was taken in by the rich family, everyone looked down on her, and she ended up fighting dogs for food.]
[The older sister has a better fate. Although she was adopted by the dorm matron, she met Mr. Brooks, the richest man in Port City, by chance and was later spoiled rotten by him.]
[This is why it's better to marry well than to be born well.]
My sister suddenly rushed to the dorm matron, sweetly calling her "Mommy."
That's when I knew. My sister could see the pop-up text too.
