The story
A new graduate, unable to find work, edits her résumé down to a high school diploma and takes a live-in housekeeping job with a wealthy family. On her first day she witnesses the household's cruelty: the nine-year-old eldest daughter throws herself down the stairs to frame her six-year-old brother, Lucas, and is left in the hospital by her mother, who does not visit. The other nannies, disgusted by the girl, push her care onto the newcomer, who moves into the hospital ward before her own dorm.
The girl cries through the night, bites and scratches from insect-infested quarters, and is blamed for every conflict with Lucas. The nannies whisper of burned rooms and strangled brothers, and when the girl overhears, she threatens to fire the new worker. Yet a hug and a few kind words calm her, and she declares the housekeeper is now on her side.
Back home, the family's silent loathing follows the girl, and the housekeeper must decide how far loyalty to an employer can stretch when the child is the one being punished.
Opening
To make ends meet, I decisively changed my degree on my resume to a high school diploma and threw myself into the housekeeping industry.
However, on my first day on the job, I successfully witnessed a [Wealthy Family Feud].
The 9-year-old eldest daughter, in order to frame her 6-year-old brother, actually jumped down the stairs...
Of course, her little trick didn't succeed.
Because, besides me seeing it.
The surveillance cameras captured it clearly too.
This eldest miss was fighting over something with her brother. When she couldn't win, she threw herself down the stairs.
