The Video That Ruined Her

For five years, Maeve has visited her mother's killer in prison, bringing him chicken sandwiches and fine whiskey. When she finally shows him photographs and tells him her mother died of cancer, he breaks down and confesses a truth she already suspected: her mother actually died of an asthma attack, and a nurse took the rescue inhaler from his hands. That nurse was Lydia—her mother's best friend, her godmother, and now her stepmother.

Maeve's father buried the truth to protect Lydia, paying off the kidnapper's associates and fabricating an alibi. He banned all mention of her mother, erased every trace of her from the house, and struck Maeve when she questioned the timeline. Now Lydia plays the grieving victim, claiming she ran to save her friend but arrived too late.

Maeve has proof the timeline never made sense. She accepts Lydia's dinner invitation with a smile, and she is going to burn her world to the ground.
