The story
When a wealthy businesswoman is found dead in her ransacked living room, the signs point to someone she trusted. Eleanor Vance, terminally ill and with only months to live, was attacked near a wall, then crawled nearly six feet before succumbing to a slashed femoral artery. The killer left no forced entry and wiped away evidence, suggesting someone she had let inside without fear.
Detective Kincaid and Dr. Sharma investigate the victim's husband, Greg Thorne, who married into her money and stands to inherit everything. He never showed up to work that day, and his credit card trail leads to a downtown women's clinic, revealing a pregnant mistress. But the autopsy uncovers something stranger: signs of asphyxiation with no ligature marks, and a faint medicinal odor in the vomit.
As the evidence mounts against the husband and his mistress, the true cause of death remains hidden in the details of a body that was already dying.
