The story
For five years, Francesca Stanford played the perfect wife to Everett Blackwood, the Manhattan titan whose empire was built on her choice of him. Then she walks into a penthouse suite and finds him with Megan, his trembling assistant. Francesca does not scream or throw her Birkin; she calmly asks for a divorce. Everett only smirks, certain she is a pampered hothouse orchid who will wither without his trellis.
But the System that has lain dormant in her mind stirs, offering her a choice: revoke the Success Aura it once granted him. The reclamation will take exactly one month, matching the divorce cooling-off period. Everett freezes her cards, confident she cannot survive the real world, while Megan offers him warm tap water and cheap noodles.
Francesca knows the truth he has forgotten: the Stanford name was old money before his family could pay rent, and in this story she is the only protagonist. As Manhattan society buzzes over the split, she walks away without looking back, promising she will not be the one regretting it.
Opening
The illusion shattered on a Tuesday afternoon in a penthouse suite at the St. Regis. I walked in to find Everett and his personal assistant together.
The girl—Megan—looked like a wreck. She was trembling, clutching a pair of thick, black-rimmed glasses, her face a mask of panic as she stammered out an apology.
