Two Faces in the Dark

After lights-out in Crown Residence Hall, Julia talks her roommates into an Ouija board session. When Leah asks where her lost earphones are, the planchette spells out that they lie under her bed beside an eye. A neighbor, Kayla Smith, then bursts in with news that a bloody eyeball has been found on the third-floor staircase, and a viral post with a censored photo has the whole campus panicking. Julia dismisses it as a fake, but Leah insists it is real, and the earphones turn up exactly where the board said.

The security guard, Emily Parker, confirms the police took the eye away, then hints that the dorm was built on a mass grave and the grave of a little girl whose eyes were gouged out. Terrified, Leah begs to share Julia's bed. In the dark, Julia feels Leah's cold fingers searching her, and when she pushes her away, she touches a rough, wet wound above Leah's eye. The lights come on, and Leah's face looks innocent and unmarked.

Julia cannot decide whether she imagined it, and she cannot sleep.
